By Jody, Morgan, Nathan and Chantelle

 Types of Moving Image Production

Types of media include:

  • Short Film
  • TV Adverts
  • TV Programs
  • Factual News Programs
  • Feature Film
  • Music
  • Music Video
These types of media are  defined as they are all linked to media due to its entertainment that is spread by the internet or in public facilities such as Cinemas. Media could be things such as News programs, Films, Music, etc with a wide range of variety that may entertain the viewers such as for Films which may focus on a specific age group such as Animated movie produced by Disney which mostly focus on entertaining the younger audiences such as Frozen which target all age
s but mainly attract younger audiences.

The Depict entry that our group made was titled "Mime Games" which is classed as a short film as it was a 90 second long short film which showed a Mime (main character) trying to escape from a glass box.

Our media  product was distributed to Depict and Youtube which are both platforms where you can release your videos, Youtube is the main platform at which people create and post videos on as a main source of platform for media. Vimeo is also another website where you can post videos.

Sources of Finance

Sources of finance include:

  • Self funding
  • Product placement
  • Profit from previous products
  • Kickstarter
  • Banks
  • Development funds
All of these sources of finance can help fund a project that may cost money that you may not be able to afford if a low budget producer which means that ways of being funded may be self funding and banks, higher budget companies may ask to be funded to create this media product as they may make profit out of it and will be able to pay back their funders whilst creating something that will entertain people due to the product being public for everyone to view or may have a price at which audiences pay to watch.

Our Depict entry funding was the college as they supplied us with a costume and allowed us to borrow their camera equipment in order to film the short film within the college premissis which meant we did not pay to film on location.

Sequals to movies can be funded due to the previous profit from their last film such as Marvel Movies, all of the films were funded due to the success of their first MCU film Iron Man which then funded The Incredible Hulk which then funded Iron Man 2 and so on.

Requirements

Requirements include:

  • Equipment (Camera/Tri-pod/SD Card)
  • Audio
  • Actors/Actresses (Chantelle)
  • Costumes (Clown)
  • Film Crew (Jody, Nathan and Morgan)
  • Departments
  • Location of shooting (If not given access for free)
  • Props
  • Publisher (Depict)
Requirements for the project are all the crew and equipment used to film the video such as Film Crew, Departments, Actors/Actresses and equipment are some of the most important requirements within shooting a film of any sort. All requirements are needed to film as they all contribute to filming a good video and its quality.

Our Depict entry had been supplied with the requirements as the college gave us equipment, costumes, Props and location for us to use during the shooting which gave us a wide variet of imagination for the Depict project.

The list of requirements used for our Depict project was:
  • Costume (Clown costume)
  • Equipment (Camera/Tri-pod/SD Card)
  • Actress (Chantelle)
  • Costume (Clown)
  • Publisher (Depict)
  • Film Crew (Jody, Nathan and Morgan)
  • Location (Glass Corridor in East Norfolk College)

Time

A time schedule was created to keep an organised filming time frame which included filming on:
  • Monday (9:30-11:00)
  • Thursday (1:30-3:00)
  • Friday (11:15- 12:45)
Between 25/11/19 and 6/12/19 where our deadline for the film was to be handed in.

Our schedule was changed due to the inconvenience of deliveries for the college which was placed at our location where we wanted to film the 90 second Depict short film which interfered with our time schedule making us rush the filming to do the editing with a shorter amount of time compared to the rest of the groups schedule.

The deadline for the Depict project was Friday 6th December which we made despite our problems with the location of filming because of the supplies delivered to the college on the exact days that we planned to film, non the less we met the deadline with just the amount of time we had left.

If deadlines are missed within a professional media industry then you are likely to be fired as deadlines are given in advanced so that you have a certain amount of time to complete the task which you were given. You are punished even if you have not been fired such as a lower pay if possible.

Personnel

Our team for our project included:

  • Actress (Chantelle)

Fascilities

For our Depict entry our equipment was supplied by the college and also our filming crew as the Camera and Tripod was given to us to film the Depict project by the college but we also had to supply ourselves SD Cards in order to capture the footage and edit the project in class using Premier Pro which was also supplied to us by the college.

The equipment that was available for our Depict project included Camera and Tri-pod which was supplied by the college in order for us to complete the task which was given to make a 90 second short film

Materials

Materials needed to create a moving image text are Premier Pro and plugins for Premier Pro so that the animation for the text is visibly moving as the text is a moving image.

List of materials needed for production:
  • Costume
  • Equipment
  • Editing software
  • Props
Financial consideraions when using certain materials could be the quality of the equipment, location of filming, costume quality, cast, filming crew and editing software.

Locations

Our Depict 90 second short film was shot within the college premissis and was given permission by the caretakers for the college to film in a corridor allowing access for us to film and publish the video which includes the college as it is filmed within it.

Location recces are forms that shows that you have scouted the area in which you may want to film in that are possible due to legal issues if not granted permission to film within the property by the owner for the building.

Location releases are the forms in which the property owner is to sign to grant you access to use the facility to film if the personnel wishes to. If the location release is not signed then the premission to film on the property isn't granted meaning if you film on the location then there are legal issues.

Our group specifically chose the glass corridor as it resembled a box where the mime was to be stuck in, this was a perfect location as this allowed us to show the outside of the box at the end of the 90 short film.

The difficulties that we faced were that we had many deliveries that was left in the way of the shot for the whole video. This was a difficulty as it would ruin the shot due to the previous shots had an empty corridor and we had no time to relocate and reshoot.
We also had many people walk over to use the vending machines that was to the left of the shot meaning that many people would be in the way of the shot when filming, the corridor also had a door at which students/teachers would walk through on the right of the location.

Codes of Practice and Regulations

Certain factors of the production of the Depict entry that had to be legal was the audio (music) that we used as the audio could be copyright claimed meaning that it's illegal to use the audio in any way within the 90 second short film.

Other factors such as the location of the shootig will need a signature to use their property to use the location as the owner of the property may not allow you to film on their property. If the film is shot in public then a signature may not be needed in order to film.

Copyright affected our Depict as the music that we were going to apply to the 90 second short film was copyright claimed which meant we couldn't use it, this meant we needed to find a different music clip to use in the 90 second short film that wasn't copyright claimed.
